    Just a quick note on the demo…

    The only thing “demo” about it is, that movement is random, everything else is “in game” available, like:
    – autofire
    – scoopies
    – four shot
    – shield (for 150 seconds (thats the timer for the DEMO also) – for later levels push the timer!!!)
    – scoopy shield (invincible! – notice, they flicker)
    – scoopies keeping over WARP (a secret you can earn)

    Short question, you played vectorblade now for over a week, every day a few hours – or so I estimate.
    The farthest you have gotten so far is level 75 (boss 3).

    Is “easy” still to difficult?

    Damn!
    I also tried several times – saw nothing.
    I am curious how it looks like – the level is not special in any way, neither are the “debris” things.

    Vectorblade_Beta7.bin – 20th Mai 2019

    – fixed a bug, where a crash could occur with a 4 shot weapon.
    – added all bonus “explanations” to desktop
    – added “demo mode” to titel screen (long wait)

    Yes, recreating bugs is a hassle. Especially bugs that need special features to discover…
    If you discover something similar – hit button 3 (for pause) and perhaps try to take a picture/video of the things happending.

    Not that I don’t believe you – but it might give me some more clues.

    Right now I try to implement a “demo mode” – and I discovered a bug that could crash the game – but it was pure luck!

    The player must have a 4 shot AND scoopies.

    And the “main shot” (the middle one) must be “zero” (all shots used, so that only scoopies are left).

    And the right scoopy must still have all four shots.

    And it must be the FIRST shot on screen (the lowest shot).

    THAN 3 registeres were not initialized correctly and a crash could occur…

    It is a wonder I found it – and could actually recreate it!

    (There even might be a very slim chance this was your bug, being scoopy and four shot, the game would depending on the content of the Y register jump to another bank… and that could very well cause not only a crash but also strange effects).

    Tonight I will build another beta…

    I can build you such a beta – no problem.
    Thing is even with this beta I can not reproduce this.

    I will send you one when I am at home.

    The question whether the “scoopy” was still active (the bonus) – is because if it was active,
    all enemies (and debris) gets REPELLED by the scoop ray. Than thy fly rotating wildly all over the screen.

    Might it also have been that?

    Never happened to me. I have to investigate. Did you kill the enmies as they entered, or while they were already on their Waiting positions?

    Was the “scoop” (the bonus) still active?

    On easy – it can be easy :-).

    The laser behaves differently on higher difficulties.
    But yes – for some time I also thought the laser would be to easy.

    But I played SO much – and I never could play endlessly.
    There might be some game phases where it “looks” easy – and perhaps is.

    But the second you get careless…

    And even if you move quickly through those easy levels – that just means you get to the harder levels more quickly too.

    For now I intend to keep it that way… lets see what the others think…

    (new beta coming tonight … adds some sounds, repairs the sound glitch with the buttons, and adds your Failure suggestions…)

    Yes – the laser SEEMS to make it so much easier.
    Question: Why did you only get to level 66 if it was so easy?

    If indeed the laser makes it sooo easy – please go to level 350 – than we talk.

    Game Over:
    I started the game over sequence – the beginnings are in beta 3.
    Within the sequence you get bonus score in relation to how well you did in the game. Dunno if there should be a tune accompanying it. I thought to make a “ticking” sound as the score goes up with bonus points.
    Once you guys see it – drop me another note about it :-). (apart from that 3 channels would be ok though – but very tiny song)

    Yeah, I thought about extra a lot (some time ago) and went with the “solution” you see.
    At one stage I had bonus drops for all weapon types – even increasing with difficulty – but IMHO it didn’t do to well.

    Yes – it is annoying isn’t it? But as said before “Watch it!”.
    Seriously I think if you only have always increasing shot quality the game gets to easy to soon. If you can “blindly” collect everything… the bonus and the ability to dodge and be concentrated does not mean anything anymore.
    Besides … there are two ways to get “shot 1 immunity” one of them is even an achievment which lets you buy shot immunity 1 in the shop for 100 credits (which – if you go for it can probably be done in the first 25 levels).
    Also in higher difficulties you can gain also a shot 2 immunity.

    I don’t think I want to change the EXTRA/Shot stuff. But I would be interested in the opinion of the other beta testers – if there is an overwhelming opinion against the current system – I might change it!

    Bonus on title screen.
    Yeah, that is a good idea! I have to look out if I can still do that (space for MH is dwindling very rapitly at the moment).

    Warp failure.
    Yeah, for level easy, that would be a good solution. I will look into it this weekend!

    The stupid thing (EU prices) are for sizes “35 x 25 x 3 cm”, and the XS parcels DHL sells are “35 x 25 x 3,5 cm” – so they are 0,5 cm to large and thus cost 8,89€.

    some random thoughts.

    a) as of now we are 8 people.

    4 of you are “signed” in and have moderation rights to this forum.
    As of now (16th May) only vtk has gotten the beta version. 4 Other packages are on the way – and towmorrow the next 2 will be posted.

    b)
    I would like to communicate with you over this board. Please all things Vectorblade beta – put on this board!
    I plan to be fairly open with everything vectorblade – so perhaps others get encouraged/learn from what we do.

    This also means – all of this is NOT secret – the forum can be read by everyone, even the binaries can be downloaded (and played with Vide, or the correct VecFever setup – no don’t ask me, ask Thomas if you wanna know). There is no NDA whatsoever. If you want to post about this stuff someplace else – you are welcome, the more the merrier (although I won’t be making (many) more beta cards).

    c)
    There is a sticky topic on this forum, where I will post binaries. All of you should sooner or later be able to burn vectorblade to your beta pcbs.

    Everytime you burn a new version – every data is erased – and you must start fresh.

    If you would like special compiles (with cheats, of various kinds) please ask – I can provide them.
    If you want to build a specific “cheat” or feature version (start at level xxx, be invincible, no bugs, very often huge enemies etc…) – ask also, I can give you the sources of vectorblade and some instructions. With Vide you can VERY EASILY build your own versions (gee – it helps if you did your own IDE…).

    On the Vectorblade “beta” page all possible achievements and secrets are listed – if you want to be spoiled.

    I’m not sure how much I can work on Vectorblade the next days – this weekend I have to work… so as usual sometimes heaps of progress will be made – and sometimes things will slow down to a crawl – that is the way it is…

    VTK asked about how long will this beta phase last?
    Actually I have no plan… When its done – its done.

    If you lose interest, if it takes to long or you just don’t have the time… than take a break, this is not a sprint its a marathon :-).
    Since I still plan to release 100 games including packaging, overlay, instructions and all that … and we know overlays can take months (many months) to make – it might well be, that the finaly is some time next year.
    (And the knowledge that the oberlays are not finished yet either – but look beautifull – Jacek is doing a wonderfull job…)

    Just export a song – I have not written a tool to actually import single instruments.

    But I would prefer if you send always both the bin and the aks file.
    With the AKS I can very easily export a YM file if needed.

    In game I can not play Arkos music – only pure data.
    For the sound effects I convert the single channels to AYFX files and play each channel seperately.
    I have not enough RAM left “in game” to play a complete song.

    If it is just one channel – then even the better…
