KeymasterVectorblade_Beta14.bin – 4rd June 2019
– high score shows now 8 aliens (btw – really like the high score music)
– title screen fades in, then scrolls up and vectorblade comes in (awaiting new music, then it will finish with the music, for now press button)
– added some more sounds to the gameNext will be the whole calibration overhaul, including extra settings for “no buzz” machines (but not today š )
If anyone wants a *.V4E file for VecFever + IRQ lines -> tell me.

KeymasterYes.
There should be a way to see it when opening. But right now I don’t know where to look exactly. That was not one of my research projects yet. Certainly the speakers are connected differently, and there are also differences regarding the ~Cart line of the cartridge port. What might be of help:

Keymasterhiscore screen: i thought that looked really good, again all stable and no problems to mention. iām tempted to wonder if there could be (if feasible) 8 ships moving around the screen border instead of 4?
Shouldn’t be any problem – but wouldn’t that look a bit “crowded”?
Ah… I can try it out… and you tell me :-)?
Do I have that WAV as an Arkos Tracker file? Otherwise it would be damn hard to insert into a trial run…
Best thing is always to just try things. The changes you guys suggest (if feasable at all) are usually only a few minute programming – and perhaps not even take as long as you need to draw the images. So – again I will just try – give me the music, or tell me which one exactly you mean you set me… and we can have a look at the real thing.
Cheers

KeymasterAs said, we don’t know of a software test. We thought for a while that the newest BIOS was only available in NoBuzz machines – but Thomas has one Buzz machine with the newest BIOS, so … we can not be CERTAIN.
@Peer:
No actually I can’t elaborate what the exact differences are. The “effect” (or one effect anyway) is – that the NoBuzz machines are much more sensitive to the calibration algorithm we use. As seen by Helmuts images above – in places TOO sensitive to use the same values as Buzz machines. While it wasn’t too difficult to come up with a more sensitive calibration – the thing is I now need another input during calibration from the person in front of the vectrex.
Well – can’t be helped. At least if you stay on the same machine, you only need to calibrate once.

KeymasterAh, I let Jacek do his artwork. It will be fine – I am sure.
But yes the sids will be smaller – the overlay as it is “crops” the display a bit to much.
As soon as I get a “final” version I will order overlays – knowing they will take the longest to produce…
Malban
KeymasterYes… fine tuning for no Buzz can be added, I just tried it.
The only downside is, that you have to tell the calibration routine that you have a no buzz. There is no automated way (that I or Thomas know about) to figure it out.
That does make calibration one step more “technical” – yuk…
Malban
KeymasterWow.
That is A LOT of difference. Damn those differences in Vectri.
Thing is, there IS no step in between – otherwise I would have let you chose the step. I have to think about it.
I probably have to insert a “don’t calibrate” option or something like that…(Somehow I knew it, beta tester mean trouble!)
Now, Helmut – I need to know if you can update your beta cartridge – so I can send you some modified calibration routines!
Malban
Keymaster“Usually” it is not difficult on a Vectrex to zoom in or out, since it is just a scale factor.
Thing is – I draw most things with very specialized routines, amongst others, specialized in using a fixed scale factor.
I do a little bit zooming with the space ship on the title screen – and this already doesn’t look to good (many bright spots).
That would increase if I zoomed out the title string, and would not look really well.
I’ll keep thinking…I don’t know if you monitor the “upload” thread, I just uploaded a new beta… here a screen of DRAFT #2:
Malban
KeymasterVectorblade_Beta13.bin – 3rd June 2019
– high score finished (edit + show), awaiting comments š
– added Helmuts DRAFT #2 as desktop “theme”
– title screen (for now) has a “PRESS BUTTON” (exits on button press – or when music finishes playing)
– some bugfixes I can’t rememeber
– rearranged some memory (between banks)
– @Helmut: could not find your “Game Over” problemIf anyone wants a *.V4E file for VecFever + IRQ lines -> tell me.
Malban
KeymasterI have to test this – but it might be fixed in the next beta anyways.
Due to memory restrains I again had to move code between the banks. There might be some new crashes though :-).
I will try finishing the Highscore Edit/Showing befor I post a new beta.
(This will only take a few hours – but I need to find the time (and mind set) to continue)
Malban
KeymasterHm…
The nice Vectorblade spaceship flying by will be missing *tear dropping* :-(.
Also I have to test it out – if cycle wise there is any possibility that it might work…And its not fitting for draft #2…
Thanks for all your thoughts and drafts!
Really appreciate it!

KeymasterHi,
I have updated the Forum software, now you should all see an “Add Media” button.
This should make it easier to upload images or short video clips if needed. Also within the editing you can switch the input style between “Visual” and “Text”.

KeymasterMy favourite from a first impression is draft two.
Beta Testers!: Thoughts?
Malban
KeymasterHi,
I am back, but I dunno if I’ll do any Vectrex today – it’s to warm to think straight – for me anyways.Regarding your findings:
1+2+3) Yes, the whole calibration thing needs a make over… it is on my todo list.
But still, even than it might be, that I won’t explain everything on screen. VB is supposed to come with an instruction booklet… But nothing decided here – just that it needs a make over.
The speed of calibration: pressing button 1 or 2 increas/decreases the calibration in “single steps” – if your beta already supports it.
Also – regarding 3. The small thing – you probably can’t get that perfect. It is one of the swarmers around the Queen. They are drawn TO FAST for the vectrex to handle (on purpose) – so here you can chose whatever you like best š4) Wellll….
Since the beginning of time (computer times) there have been space ships looking like male genitalia. Often times it was coincidence.
Even if I like making reference to other programs – this time it is not.
The ship (which one is it exactly? The Klingon?) explodes with exactly the same routines as all other ships. If that just happens to leave a flash of impression of male genitalia… I can’t help it. Actually you are the first to notice that (or at least the first to say it out loud).5)
Yes, good point. I never was completely happy with the looks. I’ll try it.BTW
Do you have access to a Eprom burner? Otherwise you will not see any changes…Regards
