vtkSpectator
hcmffm: yes i know of them and they are a good reliable respected company as far as i know
im thinking Malban might only consider that after the initial 100 copies are sold, as first things first perhaps he just wants to makes sure his initial costs of this big long running project are covered.. š
vtkSpectatoryour system sounds good Malban yep,
actually there’s something i just thought of which i didn’t think of previously;mention that you either are, or are not responsible for covering the costs (refund), of any games which go missing in the mail.. if it’s the latter, then it might be a good idea to mention it to the buyer before he/she makes payment, so they can decide if they want to risk it … ps. i’d be interested to know of the 100 games u mail out, if all of them arrive at their destination — and finally of course, here’s hoping they all find their way safely to their new homes… š
vtkSpectatorahaha ok maybe i should experiment with other sounds (although i tried it on vectrex just now and i quite like it myself)Ā š
on a different note, if its important or ‘no big deal’, i wanted to report anyway, that when i play vectorblade on my vectrex everything is ok but i notice the ship at the top is not centered very well in the triangle (i think i reported this to u before and maybe u said it doesnt matter, but anyway just incase i didnt mention it.. here it is) :
vtkSpectatorheheheh so the bytes are now all used up,Ā ok here goes with (perhaps?) the very final testing of vectorblade before release
(happy adventuring in space everyone)Ā š
vtkSpectatorps. maybe u could vectorblade serial number #1 on ebay,Ā bet it would sell very highĀ š
vtkSpectatorMalban i suppose you could think about reconsidering a fixed shipping cost for everyone and instead charge each buyer individually based on their country.Ā in your initial announcement post you could just add something like, eg: ‘note: currently due to the coronavirus situation shipping charges for (country a, country b, etc) are (much?) higher than usual …
vtkSpectatorfirst come first served is not good i agree.Ā what if someone like vectrex roli is on holiday?Ā š
vtkSpectatorand as Jerome has just said as i was typing the previous reply, no need to limit to just facebook, you can also put the same announcement post on atariage, vector forums, and anywhere else u like.Ā everyone will need to contact you the same way, which is by direct email.Ā you can mention in the announcement post that just replying to an announcement post via the forum it is posted on will not count for anything and will unfortunately be ignored (due to the confusion which would ensue from that)
vtkSpectatorcool yep .. by the way to mention;Ā personally if i was malban the first thing i would do is make a list of close friends and contacts who you think are going to want a cart
after that process, whatever is left can go onto facebook …Ā assuming any are left at allĀ Ā š
vtkSpectatorso what i would do is, go to the facebook page and announce that vectorblade is now available for pre-ordering
pre-ordering phase:
note: state that “there are limited copies so unfortunately there is no guarantee that everyone will be successful”
set any terms like eg. strictly one cart per person, and state that anyone interested must send you a message which contains their real name, facebook name (optional), email address, and country.Ā you could request their posting address also at this stage if you wish, or instead if you prefer, ask for their posting address in the ordering phase below.Ā Ā mention in this pre-ordering phase which payment options you accept, such as ‘paypal only’.Ā also state how much the game is going to cost, and if there is a shipping cost to add on (perhaps the shipping cost various depending on which country they are in).
this pre-ordering phase could last for example, one week, or however long you wish to set.Ā state how long it is going to last so everyone knows.
after the pre-ordering phase, if you find yourself with more than 100 people who have contacted you wanting the game, then you could either:
A:Ā Ā go through the names manually, and pick 100 people yourself (such as friends, long term vectrex sceners, etc), and then contact them individually (by email) to let them know it is time to pay…
B:Ā Ā just take ALL the names, regardless of how many there are after the week of pre-ordering (eg. there could be 300 interested people), and then just put them all in a random draw, and whichever random 100 people are chosen, contact them individually (by email) and tell them it is time to pay…
C:Ā a mix of A and BĀ Ā (eg.Ā 50 carts for people you know like friends etc, and then everyone else goes in a random draw for the remaining 50 carts).Ā then contact everyone individually (by email) to let them know it is time to pay …
the ordering phase now:
contact (via email) each of the 100 fortunate people who are now reserved a cart, and state that if they take longer than say, 1 week to pay (or if there is no reponse to your email at all from them), then their reserved cart will be withdrawn and will be offered to someone else.Ā get additional details from them now if u need anything more, such as their posting address
so doing it all that way means, u can post all 100 in one batch, when all of the payments are in.
no need for multiple trips to the post office.Ā and then, that’s that, it’s doneĀ š
ps. of course 100 orders is a lot to manage at once so have something like an excel spreadsheet with all their information in,Ā containing all the important info for each person, like:Ā PAID:Ā Yes/NoĀ Ā …Ā their email address, posting address, name, etc etc
vtkSpectatorawesome, cant wait to try this latest versionĀ š
vtkSpectatorthanks very much for this release and writeup,Ā Ā will be trying this out!
vtkSpectatori vote ‘beta by the end of the week’Ā Ā š
vtkSpectatorhey all, wishing luck Chris, i know its been a long rough road on this game so thanks for never giving up on this!Ā Ā š
on the next build you release i think i should be able to get back to testing (sorry for not being so active recently, i just got really sidetracked with other things)
vtkSpectatorhey guys sorry about being quiet and to see the ongoing struggle with the mysterious bugĀ šĀ Ā thanks Peer for supporting Chris with help and ideasĀ Ā (as you can imagine for many of us here, we just dont know what advice to give for such a difficult hidden ‘bug’)Ā Ā (assuming it’s a bug and not just the analog vectrex being to cope with malban’s super fast radical coding) .. the reason i say that is, why doesnt the bug surface in the emulation?Ā š
with the major havoc part, my vote is that it is no big deal to drop it from the game, and as Peer said,Ā maybe u could do something with it in the future on another project
stay safe
