Yesterday I achieved “ADMIRAL 1 BRONZE STAR” which filled out the full screen width. Adding “RANK:” doesn’t make sense.

Perhaps centering the rank might look good and might be worth a try.

Thank you for considering a change, Malban. I guess text length of the ranks won’t allow adding “Rank: “.

I reach level 75 only once a year so I cannot really help here.

Noted. Seems like a good idea.

Cool.Let’s see how this works out.

So – updates to Vectorblade might still be few days in the future, but I keep collecting the issues on my personal todo list.

Good. In the past you’ve dealt with the issues very quickly and have provided new versions quite often. This is good and makes testing quite intense but it isn’t expected at all. A slower pace is also fine. 🙂

Did anyone ever test the VecVox version? Didn’t get any feedback whatsoever…

I’ll try out the VecVox version in the next couple of days and will report here.

I think the scrolling and appearance of text is pretty good, now.

    End of “movie”
At the end of the “movie” the text “KEEP THE VECTREX ALIVE” scrolls in. Currently, this text disappears as soon as it reached the center of the “screen”.
    Suggestion:
Option A.) The text “KEEP THE VECTREX ALIVE!” could be displayed a bit longer and then disappear. Fading out might look good.
Option B.) Scroll the text out of the screen and then finish the movie.
Option C.) Leave it as it is. 😉

    Greetings: Four times “Chris”
I do know that there are many Chrisses around in the Vectrex scene. In the greetings “Chris” is mentioned for times. This looks a bit like a bug.
Suggestion: Add the first letter of the surname to differentiate the four Chrisses. E.g. Chris P., Chris M., …

BTW: In the Greetings sections many first names are used except VECTREXROLI and VECTREXMAD! Is this on purpose? Can people choose?

I’d like to continue the above shop/level discussion a bit. Currently, the surprising/irritating thing about the shop is that the shop appears right after you killed the last enemy. There isn’t even an explosion of the last enemy. So you might happen to kill all enemies with your many shots and all of a sudden the shop is displayed. (BTW, this is probably the reason why I didn’t realize that the shop isn’t triggered by a power-up or something but always shown at the end of every fifth level.)

    Suggestion:
A short pause after killing the last enemy and then displaying the shop might make things clearer and smoother. The shop might even appear at the end of the level as some kind of planet/asteroid/… but that would be probably a bit too much.

The above video showing Vectorblade and the original Warblade is a good idea and surprising to see.

At some stage I mentioned that Vectorblade is a bit like a lottery game to me. Not sure how other people feel and think but in the meantime this lottery game became quite addictive to me because you keep thinking “Just one more game, next time I’ll do better and will have more luck!”.

Christopher, would you mind unlocking the forum “Solved”? There is at least one topic which I’d like to reopen or add a comment.

When losing the last life there is this screen where the final score is calculated. It would be nice if it would stay a bit longer, or would wait for a key press to have the time to write the score down when competing with friends.

Right, atm counting is very fast and you cannot really see what is counted unless you know it. It would be good if the initial score/number/rank was shown for a short while and then counting down begins.

Gee – what happened to: “We old gamers used to figure things out, we don’t need additional explanation?”

I just try to find ways to make things simpler and clearer if possible. Some ideas and suggestons may be good and some are not. I did civil service but AFAIK, in military the more decorations you have, the better. And the more stars (or whatever) a decoration has, the better. Obviously Vectorblade is not a military game. 😉

The different ordering was just a trial to find a way that players must not wade through pages of achievements to see the achievements they have. Though I understand now that using a different ordering doesn’t help in that respect unless you ordered
    1. all achieved achievements.
    2. all non-achieved achievements.
But this would break the natural ordering of the achievements.

During the past days I played a lot and made various proposals including stupid ones. I’ll have a two week testing pause.

Please move this one to “Resolved”.

Thank you for not providing a new beta version. This gives us testers some time to breathe. 😉 I just did about two hours of playing with beta24 and didn’t experience any crashes (I avoided the Minestorm Mission and didn’t use the help system, though).

The shop has about 300 cycles left befor it hits the 50Hz mark.

I’d say: Simply forget about the shop sign. The trader having his arms over the table of items looks cool, already.

    Every fifth level.

Interesting to know. Actually, I couldn’t figure out the systematic behind it. Did other tester realize this pattern?

One wants to get rid of text, and the other wants to put a big sign “SHOP” on the shop… to know its a SHOP :-)…

Yes, many ideas, many opinions, many thoughts, and we even change our minds. 😉

Perhaps the shop sign should say something like “WARES” or “GOODS” or …. This way the label/sign adds to the trader graphic plus it makes clear that the user is in a shop. EDIT: No sign/label at all might be also an option.

    Probably a dumb question:

Q: When is the shop displayed?

Regarding the help system there’s one more option which I favour:

d.) Get completetly rid of the help system

I think there could be some few on-screen texts where needed (but very few, only). But a separate help system is unusual and an overkill. For the helpless user (like me 😉 ) there is a printed manual, still.

    Regarding Minor Havoc:
Already, there’s the warp failure and the minestorm mission. This all has to do with your space ship. I’m not sure whether adding a jump and run is a good idea. Yes, it adds even more varietey but from my point of view the game could be complete even without MH. (Instead of adding MH the landing sequence which is part of the Minestorm mission could be made more complicated/different (e.g landing on a planet and not just on a rock) or there could be an end sequence.)

In order to hi-jack this topic I’ve changed the topic title. 😉

    Levels of an achievement
Currently, I find the levels 1-3 of the achievements a bit confusing. Was it level 1 which is best? Or level 3?
Perhaps instead (or in addition) of levels there could be stars or something else. This way the user would know which achievement of a specific type (sniper, score, …) is best.

Please note that I’m not so sure about this one and would like to know what other testers think  and suggest to make achievements and their levels clearer to players.
